About Bronze Sculpting

Bronze sculpture and weapons are some of the oldest known forms of art we have in existence, Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. The oldest bronze artifact found to date is a tin copper alloy dated to c. 4650 BC. The Bronze Age is the earliest period for which we have direct written accounts, since the advent of writing coincides with its early beginnings. An original bronze sculpture is a testament to history as well as a long term investment for generations to come.

I love and enjoy the strength of bronze to portray the images I am inspired to sculpt. Welcome to my "Wall of Bronze", original sculptures.

MY PROCESS

First an original sculpture is made. I prefer to use classico clay. An armature is made and the clay applied and sculpted to desired effect

STEP ONE:

STEP TWO:

A latex or silicone mold, with an outer "mother" molding, is made of the original sculpture

Melted wax is poured in to the "mother" mold and removed when cooled. Then sprued and covered in a sand cast mold, which when cured is "fired" to melt the wax and remove I, .hence "lost wax"

STEP THREE:

Molten bronze is poured into the sand cast mold and once cured the sand mold is removed

STEP FOUR:

STEP FIVE:

Bronze metal pieces are welded, brazed and chased to original specifications

STEP SIX:

finished bronze cast is patinated for color effect  and sealed with a wax or lacquered finish.
